@Joyce McGann, presumptuous of what? That we can know more than we know? I too hail from ancestors who came from countries with blurred boundaries: Hungary, Austria, and Poland. I still ask my older relatives regularly to tell me stories of what they know, what they remember. I pass this information on to my son, who visited these areas during his semester abroad. I make foods that my Russian grandmother made (even though they are far too starchy for my current diet). I keep the Yiddish words alive by using them. And yet I still know so little. I hope we can all keep this curiosity alive and pass it on to our children.
